Should you wait for ISO 9001:2026?
Short answer: no.
ISO 9001:2026 is expected to publish in September 2026. Until it does, ISO 9001:2015 is the only version you can be certified to, and every certification body is still auditing against it. Waiting does not get you a newer certificate. It just delays the contracts you need the certificate for.
When the new version lands, businesses already certified get a three year transition period, expected to run to September 2029. That is a long runway, and the revision is evolutionary rather than a rebuild. The clause structure stays the same. A system built properly now carries straight across.
There is one change already in force. The climate amendment published in February 2024 means you have to consider whether climate change is relevant to your business and record that assessment, even if the answer is no. Auditors are checking for it now, in 2015 audits. If your existing system does not cover it, that is a gap worth closing before your next surveillance visit.
